Method

Trafikverket, the Swedish Transport Administration, publishes every advertised train in Sweden with its planned, expected and actual time at each stop, as riders see them on the station boards. The data holds only Swedish stops: trains to Copenhagen, Oslo or Narvik are measured as far as the border. Delay board reads the changes every minute.

  • A train’s delay is its actual time minus its planned time at the last stop it has passed, to the second; before its first stop, the forecast for the next one, stored as current.
  • A train counts as cancelled only when it is cancelled at every stop; a train cancelled for part of its way ran.
  • Operators are the brands riders know: SL, Skånetrafiken (Pågatågen), Västtrafik, SJ and others; Krösatågen and Öresundståg count as one operator each, across all the counties they serve.
  • Stockholm’s Pendeltåg lines go by their numbers (41, 43X); other lines by the train’s product and its two ends (Pågatågen Malmö C – Ystad). Replacement buses and taxis, heritage and charter trains are left out.
